Our Backyard

I have recently become mesmerized and mystified by one of God's magical creations, the Hummingbird. This Spring we planted a small butterfly garden to attract another of God's beautiful creatures. On a lark we put up a hummingbird feeder, never really thinking that we would be successful in attracting any. Well, as the man said, put it up and they will come (or something like that), and ..... they have.

While I was waiting for the daily return of "our hummingbirds", I became aware that the backyard was teeming with other beautiful creatures all seeming to want their opportunity in front of the camera. Squirrels take great delight in teasing our dogs as they scamper across the fence, staying just high enough to be out of harms way. The bluejays are clowns; loud, boisterous, and into everyone's business. Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal, quiet and unassuming as they try to stay below the radar. Woodpecker is "undressing" a pine tree in search of yummy pine beetles. The mockingbird, with imperial attitude is the "boss"' of the yard.
